About Us
Highland Baptist Church began as a thought on August 24, 1974. A group of 17 adults met at the house of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Waldrop to discuss where and how to begin a place of worship. The group decided to seek advice from Rev. Claude Howe of Water Valley, MS.
After making the decision to pursue with starting a new church in Senatobia, MS the group held its weekly worship meetings at the home of Mrs. Mary Bradbury. September 15, 1974 was an important date as it was then that they voted to be known as Highland Baptist Church, to call Rev. Howe to be their pastor, and to purchase a mobile chapel to be placed on a leased lot on Norfleet Drive near where McDonalds is now located. There were 29 charter members ages 11 years to 88 years old.
May 25, 1975 the church voted to purchase the 5 ¼ acres on Hwy 51 S. across from Bethesda Cemetery then known as Magnolia Cemetery. November 7, 1976 the church voted to begin the construction of the new sanctuary. The construction began January 15, 1977 and the church held its building dedication on August 21, 1977. Today Highland Baptist Church is known as the church that is “Passionate About Gods Word, Excited About Missions, and Dedicated to the Meaningful Worship of God.
If you are searching for a group of people to accept you where you are and challenge you to grow in your reflection of God’s love, “Welcome”, for that is our goal. For those who call Highland ‘home’, we commit to: pray, listen with compassion, forgive, and restore.
We voluntarily associate and partner with the Southern Baptist Convention.
